About the event
JACKSON, MI — Jackson Interfaith Shelter will celebrate a major milestone in its mission to serve neighbors experiencing homelessness with a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Family Shelter on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
The event will take place at 305 W Wesley Street, Jackson, MI 49201, marking the official start of construction on a facility designed specifically to provide greater stability, dignity, and support for families in crisis. Parking will be available in the lot directly across the street from the site. Light refreshments will follow at the main shelter building.
For more than 50 years, Jackson Interfaith Shelter has offered shelter, food, and hope to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the Jackson community. The new Family Shelter represents an important step forward — expanding the organization’s ability to serve parents and children with greater compassion, resources, and long-term support.
“This groundbreaking signals the beginning of a new chapter for our organization,” said Steve Castle, CEO. “Our goal is to create a space where families can find not only refuge, but renewed hope and stability as they take steps toward a brighter future.”
Community leaders, partners, donors, media contacts and members of the public are invited to attend and join in celebrating this historic moment. Jackson Interfaith Shelter is grateful for the continued support of the community as it works to put God’s love into action through expanded services and shelter for families in need. Guests are encouraged to RSVP in advance (though it is not required) by visiting interfaithshelter.com/groundbreaking.
